Focus On Effort

Focus on effort more than the weight you lift. I’m watching these guys squat in my gym. Fairly strong working up to 365 for 4 reps. However not one of their sets did they chase failure, did they even come close or actually hit physical failure. Saving energy each set in order to perform one final set at 365 to impress all the people in the gym who weren’t watching lol. Push yourself. Forget about trying to lift heavy and impressing others. Chase failure. Those squat racks have fucking safety bars for a reason. Here is an indisputable fact. Every time you quit and each the weight during a set as the pain and burning kicks in, you are me tally checking out. You are establishing a precedent of mental weakness over and over. Rather than teaching your body to endure more pain, rather than build more mental strength you are creating a weak mental state of quitting as soon as the pressure mounts. Don’t be a mental coward. Do not say goodbye as the pain says hello. Keep that soft flesh over the flame and force it to harden to unbreakable steel
